CHARGES LODGED IN VANDALISM INVESTIGATION
September 12, 2007.
The Brewer Police Department is continuing an investigation into damage that has been done over the summer to the former Eastern Fine Paper Mill on South Main Street. This ongoing investigation has generated charges against one adult and two juveniles. It is anticipated that more suspects will be charged as the investigation continues. The mill, which has been vacant for several years, has been an attractive target for vandals. During this time period, tens of thousands of dollars of damage in broken windows, graffiti, and other destroyed property has occurred.
The City has taken a proactive response to these incidents by installing surveillance equipment and stepping up patrols. Any past or future violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
At this time, Harold Colson, age 18, of Orrington has been charged with Burglary and Aggravated Criminal Mischief. Two area juveniles have also been charged with the same crimes, but their names are not being released due to their ages.
