More charges likely in Brewer drug bust

Saturday, March 12, 2005 - Bangor Daily News

BREWER - Additional charges may be filed and another suspect added to the list of three people whom Brewer police arrested earlier this week in connection with a drug bust. A tip led police on Monday to a local motel room where they found five people, drugs and drug paraphernalia, authorities said.

The investigation into the incident is continuing and other charges could be brought against some of those in the room, Brewer Detective Sgt. Jay Munson said Friday.

That night they arrested three people. Benjamin Dunham, 26, of Bangor was charged with violation of bail conditions, possession of a Schedule W drug, cocaine; falsifying physical evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Also in the motel room was Gail Brewer, 41, of Bangor, who was arrested on a warrant, and Meghan Stanbaugh, 27, a transient, who was arrested for violating probation.

Brewer police Officer Nelson Feero received a tip about possible drug use in a room at the motel. Dunham reportedly was involved and was required to let police search him at any time as part of his bail conditions from a previous arrest. At 10 p.m. Feero, Sgt. Jason Moffitt and Officer Roger Hershey went to the room and knocked repeatedly before being let in, Moffitt said earlier this week.

As the door opened, Feero saw Dunham throw away a hypodermic needle, in an apparent attempt to hide it, Moffitt said.

The officers found five people in the room, including Stanbaugh, who was drinking, a violation of her probation.

Also found in the room was a piece of cotton with cocaine residue on it. Officials said the cotton was used as part of the process for injecting the drug.
