RE: Drug Seizure/Arrests – Press Release
DATE: February 6, 2006

The Brewer Police department arrested three (3) men Friday afternoon in Brewer for possession of a large quantity of Marijuana. A David Perez age 25 of Winterport Maine was charged with aggravated trafficking in marijuana and is currently being held at the Penobscot County Jail. One of the other persons involved, a Joel Cantu age 33 is being held at the request of Texas authorities as he is wanted for a parole violation.

According to Lt. Antone of the Brewer Police Department, the Brewer Police received information that a package would be arriving in Brewer containing approximately 21 pounds of marijuana. As a result of this information, Officer Amy Nickerson of the Brewer Police Department and her drug detection canine “Mace” confirmed the presence of illegal drugs in the suspect package. Upon confirmation by the drug dog, Det. Sgt. Munson was able to obtain a search warrant for the package. Once the package was opened, it was confirmed that there was in fact approximately 21 pounds of marijuana.

Later that afternoon, arrangements were made for the addressee to pick the package up. Once the suspect picked up the package he was arrested for aggravated trafficking in marijuana. The other two men were from Texas where they are on parole for unrelated offenses.

Due to the ongoing investigation no additional information is available at this time. Should you have any further questions please feel to contact Lt. Perry Antone at 989-7001 on Tuesday February 7, 2006.
